Google Wave is supposed to be one of the newest collaborative tools from the 251px-Googlewave.svgGoogle stable that will merge emails, social networking, IMs and wikis in a forum style room, using text and even video.

This tool is supposed to make sending messages and follow ups easier and more organized. While users can leave messages in response, and view and respond each time they log in, they can also view entries in real time. A wave will consist of blips which users can respond to.

Waves are slated to replace email once the technology is stabilized and becomes popular.

The preview version is now available to invitees and comes with 20 user invites/recommendations.

I have just started creating my list of contacts to test it out… looks good!

I was checking out Best Denki at Hawalli, the latest electronics showroom to open in Kuwait, when I saw the pile of 771707STORY_perspective_525_330 boxes with Samsung STORY written on it. on closer inspection turned out to be a 1 TB external Hard Drive. The cost 29.500 KD. Add to that the humans insatiable need for digital storage space and it ends up in a purchase. That works out to what roughly 300 fils per GB…right?

The Samsung STORY Station is a USB external Drive. Comes with its own power supply. The body is made of gun metal and the best thing about it… it has an on/off switch. This is quite convenient as you no longer need to disable the drive and then unplug it. The switch also doubles as a dimmer for the activity indicator light under the drive, which gives it a ubercool effect, only if you are going to switch off the lights. The form factor is suitable for stacking more stories on top, as the vents are below the drive and the space between two would provide ample ventilation.

The usual tools needed for creating a secure folder and back up, that are now available in most drives can also be found on the drive.

Now to move all my media files and connect my NEUROS OSD to stream video to my TV…muuhuuhuhahahaha!!!

One of the best things about Firefox and what separates the men from the boys, are the apps or add-ons a user can add to the browser, to get the best out of it without opening too many windows or pressing too many buttons.

I was on the look out for a good news ticker, but that meant downloading multiple ticker programs, as there wasn’t a single one which could provide personalized news items. Well, there wasn’t until I came across this nifty add-on from Christopher Finke. This software developer, has build an add-on which lets use add your favorite RSS links using live bookmarks  and then scrolls them across your screen. Click on a news item and it opens in a new tab, and disappears from the ticker to be replaced by the next item as and when it comes. Lots of options and a truly great add-on.

Other add-ons I user are Twitter Fox, which lets me tweet from the browser and Sensex Ticker which updates stock prices.

Sure we’ve all received emails from the son/daughter of the chief Poo-Bah of Timbuktoo, who requests assistance to claim the inheritance left behind by theirnon-existent  father but this recent mail took it to new heights.

The best time to kick a guy is when he is down, but claiming to be Maan Al Sanea himself, was something new. OK so the guy is fighting with his in-laws, he isn’t dead..

ClChPCWls_Inset_mr I had been planning to buy a headset for use at my office, when I saw a google ad on a Logitech wireless headsets. The ad took me to a local Logitech site.

So, I decided. and why? The Logitech site is an online shoppe for Logitech products. It has a wide variety of products, and all you need to have is your credit card or KNet card handy. It’s secure and they have partnered with local courier, Posta plus to deliver the goods. Delivery is charged at 1.250 KD and takes a day. Clear cut, no nonsense, no frills – thats how shopping should be.

The Clearchat PC wireless itself was a great buy. The set up was easy, the sound was clear and it even has a mute and volume control on the outside of the right ear piece. It works on 2.4GHz and has a USB transmitter.
